Black Woman Arrested but Not White Man for Impersonating a Police Officer

A Grantville woman and Stockbridge, Georgia Code Enforcement Officer was charged in Coweta County for impersonating a police officer. Lothine Samantha Adei-Manu was pulled over by Grantville police for a traffic violation and Lothine identified herself as a police officer. It was later confirmed that she is employed as a code enforcement officer. 

A Georgia Code Enforcement Officer is not a police officer. They are not considered sworn law enforcement officers. While they may work closely with police and have some enforcement powers, their primary focus is on ensuring compliance with local codes and ordinances related to property maintenance, zoning, and other non-criminal issues. In the state of Georgia, it is a crime to identify as a law enforcement officer when you’re not. 

Lothine appears to be African American. In April 2022, Grantville Police Departments Chaplain, T.J. Boyd, appeared as a cop, had a badge, had a firearm, and appeared to be operating a marked police cruiser. Police Chief Steve Whitlock put Boyd in this situation. However, Grantville Police charges a black woman for identifying as a cop and gives a convicted felon a marked police car for the day to block traffic in April 2022.

Would Lothine have been charged if she was white. Grantville mayor Richard Proctor is known to have associated with self-proclaimed white supremacist (Tuttle) in the past. Proctor shared a live YouTube panel with Tuttle on another convicted felons YouTube channel. How can Grantville charge a black woman for this yet allow a convicted felon with no police training be a cop for a day.

Hopefully Stockbridge will investigate this matter closely and not discipline or terminate Lothine’s employment if the matter doesn’t fit.
